Summer has a way of reminding us to slow down.
Between tending the garden, mowing grass, and keeping up with everyday life, it can be easy to forget to simply sit and enjoy the season. Lately, I’ve been wishing for a shady spot in the yard where I could put my feet up and take in the view, a backyard retreat if you will.
So when a hammock arrived at our doorstep, it felt like the perfect excuse for a simple summer project.

The hammock came neatly packed in a box, but before long it was spread across the grass while we figured out the best place to hang it.
Cowboy and I gathered up a few supplies, including a few tools, chain, a fence post, and a post driver. One end of the hammock was secured to a sturdy tree while the other side would need a little creativity.
A fence post rode in on the trailer and was carried into position. Then came the work of driving it into the ground, drilling the hardware, and getting everything tightened up just right.
As I filmed the process for Rumble Gumption Junction, I couldn’t help but smile at how these little projects have become part of our story. One project leads to another, and slowly the property becomes more of a home.
Before long, the hammock was hanging perfectly between the tree and its new post, swaying gently in the summer breeze and creating that backyard retreat I had in mind.
Naturally, I had to be the first one to test it out.

Sometimes the best projects aren’t the biggest or most expensive ones.
Sometimes they’re the simple additions that turn an ordinary backyard into your favorite backyard retreat - giving you a reason to slow down, put your feet up, breathe a little deeper, and appreciate the place you’ve built around you.
Between the garden growing nearby and a new hammock tucked beneath the shade tree, summer at Rumble Gumption Junction is looking pretty good.
